This is blog that I will periodically update for my JOU 2100 and MMC 1101 classes as the progress of my students continues. This will be our first attempt at maintaining a semester-long blog.

MMC 1000 update — week of Sept. 5-11

Class, for this week’s blog topic, I’ve created a combination of a question from the two chapters you are either reading or just completed reading from the Rodman text. (Chapter 3 - books and Chapter 4 — newspapers)

First, I’d like to know about a significant book you recently read and what made it so noteworthy in your mind. I’d also like to know if you’ve purchased the Nook or Kindle and if you think a devise like that will be the future of books (do you believe the print version of book are over and that the future of books will be in some type of portable devise where you can download books).

Personally, I recently purchased a book, 365 Thank Yous, in which the author details the impact on his life when he began sending thank you cards to every business client or anyone who had made a positive impact in his life or the life of his family. It’s amazing how a hand-written card can change a person’s demeanor.

The second aspect of the blog post relates to the newspaper unit. You’ve read about the struggling state of the newspaper industry in readings I’ve posted for you or from the chapter.

I’d like you to offer two solutions for how the newspaper industry can increase readership among the 18-30 year-old age group (that can include the website).
