MMC 1000 update — week of Nov. 1-6
Hello everyone:
I just posted a link to an article I’d like you to read about BP’s PR campaign for the after effects of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico about 18 months ago. This will coincide with your readings this week from Chapter 12: Public Relations.
After reading the article, I’d like you to respond to whether you believe BP’s PR campaign has been effective in getting the public to change its mind about BP in general. (you have probably seen some of the series of TV ads BP has run over the last year highlighting what it has done in the cleanup over the last year).
I’d like you to also consider whether people now believe the company did a good job in its cleanup efforts and efforts to make sure that a spill like that does not happen again.
In making your response, I’d also like you to consider the Crisis Management: Dealing with Emergencies subsection from Chapter 12 (pgs. 346-347) and what the textbook says about how companies deal with emergency situations PR-wise. Did BP follow that plan?
